Yann Chancerel ambassadeur Dalmard Marine

Yann, GR34 hiker and sculptor inspired by the world

Since the age of 7, Yann Chancerel has had one unchanging habit: putting on his Dalmard Marine hat before setting off. A simple gesture, passed down over time, which has become second nature. A sturdy essential, designed to last, capable of keeping up with him — on the trails of Brittany or on the other side of the world.

Walking to understand the world

As a certified hiking guide on the GR34, Yann knows the Breton coast inside out. Every step is a reading of the landscape, every detour an encounter. Walking is not just a means of getting from A to B: it is a way of being in the world.
This philosophy is reflected in everything he does. Slowness, observation and respect for life are at the heart of his daily life, whether he is guiding a group along the Brittany coast or working with stone in his workshop in Pléhédel.

On the other side of the world: New Zealand

In November 2025, Yann set sail for New Zealand. A raw and powerful land, where mountains plunge into lakes of unreal colours, where silence reigns naturally. There, his Dalmard Marine beanie once again played its role: faithful, protective, tested by wind and cold... and even shared with other hikers.

This trip was also an immersion in Māori culture, deeply connected to the earth, time and the elements. It was a valuable source of inspiration that now feeds into his work as a stone sculptor.

When the material tells the story of the journey

Back in his studio in Pléhédel, Yann transforms his experiences into shapes. The stone becomes a memory of the journey, a trace of movement, an echo of the landscapes he travelled through. Each sculpture carries with it a part of the journey, a special attention paid to the raw material and what it has to say.

A shared obviousness

Impossible d’évoquer la Nouvelle-Zélande sans penser à ses moutons. Un clin d’œil évident pour nous. Chez Dalmard Marine, la laine fait partie intégrante de notre ADN. Naturelle, résistante, authentique — à It is impossible to talk about New Zealand without thinking of its sheep. An obvious nod to us. At Dalmard Marine, wool is part of our DNA. Natural, resistant, authentic — just like the hat that has accompanied Yann since childhood.

Guide, artist, long-distance walker. Yann moves forward with sincerity, firmly rooted in his Breton origins, his gaze turned towards elsewhere.
